Minor in Literature in English
The minor in Literature in English provides students the opportunity to develop communication skills, life skills, breadth of knowledge, creativity through the analysis of literature and culture in English.
This minor introduces students to a wider variety of reading and writing approaches, and helps them engage with language as a more fluid, dynamic entity. They learn communication skills through discussion and conversation, in less directed formats through which they need to navigate on their own. Students develop their own imaginative and creative faculties, which are essential not only for the arts but applicable in areas such as product design, marketing, overall problem solving, and so on.
Topically, students also learn to understand literature and the cultural contexts behind which it is created. As a cultural artifact, literature inherently reflects the larger cultural moments and processes in which it’s created. Students thus learn to develop themselves as individuals and people, to express their own voices and reflect upon their own personal experiences, translating into life skills and development beyond careers and academics themselves.
